Stamping Images on Black Cardstock

Hello!

Recently I found a tutorial on the Black Magic Technique. I couldn't wait to try it and once I did, I loved it! It's so simple and yet so effective. I must admit though, it is a bit addicting! I believe the person who initially came up with this technique is Karen Barber, at A Stamper's Diary. She uses it a lot in her cards, and they're all gorgeous!!

Here's a card I made using this technique. Notice the vibrant color of the flowers on the black cardstock. Karen calls this Black Magic 'with a twist,' because I've used a white marker on it...a white gel pen would probably work better though.

I apologize that the first picture is a bit overexposed. I guess I shouldn't have used a flash, but it's so dark out today that I thought I'd need it.

Our usual semi-arid surroundings and sunny conditions are nowhere to be seen. Instead we are seeing bouts of downpours day after day. Even the surrounding mountains are green...(GASP!!) I'm not really complaining though...we need it since we had very little snow last winter...also very unusual for Kamloops.

Here's the inside. The blue in this photo is a truer representation of the actual card.

I used a stamp from the Sharon Ann Delightful Collection: Elegant (D-232). It's one of the very few flower stamps I have. The ink is a white ink from CTMH. I just stamped it onto some black cardstock.

At this point you have to wait for the ink to dry or, if you're like me you get out your trusty heating gun and dry away.

Once it's dry the fun begins! You'll need 2 or 3 shades of an array of coloring pencils.

Then you just color to your hearts content....and believe me...you'll get carried away playing with this technique.

Here's another one in which I made little colored circles on the stamp. Did I mention that I have very few flower stamps?

Anyway, that's about all there is to it.

Easy, eh?

If you like to see video tutorials, there's one over at Wickedly Wonderful Creations that you will enjoy. Isn't that card AMAZING!

Well, that's it for today. I'm going to keep my eye out for some flower stamps...it seems you can never have enough stamps!

Thanks for visiting!!  :)

  1. Very nice! I just purchased some white ink the other day. I'm trying to create some white on white collages...not working out so well, so far. Might try this so I can get something to work! I have some graduation cards to make and this would look very pretty. Thanks so much for sharing!

  4. Hi Lorie,
You're right, it's a Martha Stewart edge punch called doily lace. It's one of my favorites!
