Teacup Mirror and Envelopes

Here is something I made last year out of recycled teacups. I absolutely love this mirror, which currently hangs in my kitchen close to my Dutch blue delft plates, etc. I am thinking about making these to sell, but am concerned about shipping costs and wondering how practical it would be to even try to ship these. In the meantime I thought I would share these photos with you.

Here is another craft I did a while ago. These little pockets are made out of regular envelopes. You close the flap and cut the envelope in half, cut the open corners and fold it back. Then you add patterned paper and flower embellishments. Easy!

Then I took my Zutter Bind It All and bound them into a little book with photos of my grandson....I'm a very, very young grandmother...really I am! ;)

I did the chipboard letters with a special embossing technique created by Marion from A Piece of Craft. I really like the effect which I think looks very masculine. If you double click on the picture, it should enlarge it a bit so that you can see it.

I made my mother and mother-in-law each a mini album last Christmas of all their grandchildren. One of the things I worked into each page was the meaning of their names, and in their baby page I included the date they were born. It was a big hit!!

Since then, another one of my sons married, and the other son and daughter-in-law had a son. So why am I telling you this? Well, I'll be doing up a couple of 8X8 pages for each of them very soon and hope to post them here.

Until then,

  6. I've come from your April 5, 2012 post to look at the teacup mirror, and it's gorgeous! I've thought of doing this kind of thing (although, teacups never crossed my mind!), but I never get around to it. Good for you for actually following through on your ideas. I can't believe that 600 people have looked at this, and 100 people have reblogged about it, but only a few left a message. It's amazing.

  11. Carmen! I know you posted this a while ago (April 2012). This mirror is so gorgeous!! It is amazing! How did you cut the cups?!! Or are they whole? I cannot stop looking and thinking about this piece!!!
(it is also wild that so many have looked but not commented.)

  12. Thanks Krista! I broke the cups and pieced them together. I'm sure you could cut them with something to get straight edges, but it gives a different look. I think the reason so many looked but didn't comment is because they came from a different site...so they left a comment there. I hope I didn't come across like I was complaining...it just seemed funny to me. I'm happy they looked and liked! :)

  16. Stunning mirror - I love how you have put all the broken cup pieces together, Carmen. I've not seen anything like it, I'm sure if you were to sell these the response would be high!!

I'd certainly buy one if I saw it - there's not anything like it over in the UK (as far as I know - but what do I know lol)

Loving the little pockets too - and what a cute little boy!

  26. I adore the mirror and would like to try something like it. My question is, how did you "stick" the pieces on -- with mortar or glue and if glue, what kind of glue? Thanks!

    1. Hi Anonymous,
You could probably use various glues, but I used glossy accents and hot glue. I've had mine hanging for about 7 years and have reinforced only a couple of pieces on it

  31. Love, love love the mirror. The pieces are well placed and I especially love the miniatures that were probably some little girls tea set in the past (maybe yours). Your use of tea spoons and the odd button is perfect for interest. Just so clever, thanks for sending the link at my request!

  32. I love the mirror! I actually have a tea set that was my great grandmother's that my sister broke when we were younger. This would be the perfect way to show off the gorgeous set! Any other ways to display them because it's basically the entire set minus the tea pot that was broken.

    1. That would be wonderful! Mine actually just fell off the wall. It'd been hanging there for about 8 years, and the cord broke on me...CRASH!!! So sad, but I can make another one! :)

  33. The mirror is very cute, I sure hope you only used broken tea cups for it. The cups are gorgeous.

This year will be the 10th year for doing a tea party for my grandchildren, daughters and my friends who bring either their daughters or granddaughters.

I like the albums you made too, nice touch.

    1. Hi Lora, I do use some broken teacups, the rest are from 2nd hand stores. It would be too hard to find cups that go together that are already broken. Anything that looks too perfect I leave for others. I love old teacups!

  34. Stunning composition of tea cups!! You could sell them in local boutiques and not have to worry about shipping, but packed properly these would ship fine (ask for some professional packing tips from a place that exclusively does such a thing and they may have just the right kind of packing material beyond peanuts and bubble wrap) and people wouldn't care about shipping costs because if you appreciate funky, creative art, you will do what it takes to have that special, one of a kind piece of art!! 36. Love the teacup mirror. I don't know that I would buy one because of shipping concerns. Glad I saw on a comment to a comment that used hot glue to hold it together. So sorry the cord broke. Glad you share it before it fell. Love the photos albums great I idea; I'm not going to do one but love your creativity.
