Kai Layout and Ink Stains

First things first! Roni, over at Ink Stains recently had a birthday. So she decided that in celebration of her birthday she should pick a bunch of people and send them a present!! How cool is that?

It reminded me of when I was a kid in Holland. For your birthday you were allowed to bring something to class to celebrate your special day with your classmates; be it a tin of cookies, candies, etc. You would have a moment in the limelight as you went from desk to desk, and as each one took one of your delectable treats and said thank you. This was the height of priviledge, and we all LOVED it. Maybe we have it all wrong in the west?

Anyway, I was the very lucky recipient of some of Roni's HANDMADE items. Check them out, and be sure and check out Roni's blog..she's got some great ideas!

I just LOVE them. If that weren't enough, today I also received a magazine from her with a bunch of ideas in it for Christmas! I was SO surprised! Thank you so much Roni!! Don't forget to visit her.

Now, onto the second part of this post...

Kai is SUCH a boy! Therefore, doing a page of him was extremely difficult. I didn't want it to be too baby-ish...yes, I know he's just little, but even so, I wanted something that was more masculine. I finally came up with something I hope my parents will like and which still reflects Kai.

I showed the picture of the full page twice because I like each picture for different reasons. The paper in the second photo really doesn't shine this much in real life, but it has better coloring than the first one, which seems a bit washed out. Still the glitter in the first one is more realistic to how it looks.

You'll notice that there's a tab coming out from under the card (Starring). The name Kai has so many meanings, that I couldn't put them all on the card. So I included all the meanings on another sheet that pulls out. My son and his wife picked the name because of the meanings "Rejoice" and "Ocean." His second name, Linden, is after the hockey player Trevor Linden. They are HUGE hockey fans. His third name is after his Daddy's second name.

Below are some close ups of the page:

I received some Tim Holtz stamps in the mail today that I won through eBay. The birds on the wire is one of the stamps I received. The plane is a rub on.

The clockworks is another Tim Holtz stamp. I stamped it onto a separate piece of paper and used pop dots to give it some height. The corner stamp is also from one of the stamp sets. I love his stamps!!!

Then there's the crown stamp...also Tim Holtz. Kai really is a prince in our eyes. He's such a happy boy, full of spit and spunk, yet soooo sweet and sensitive. I like that. He's got it all!

Here is my second attempt at Kai's page. The photo is kind of overexposed and a bit blurry, but you get the drift of it anyway. Things went terribly wrong with this one...I actually dropped an inked stamp onto the wrong part of the page, and I'd already taped most of my elements in place. I didn't want to have to redo it, so I 'fixed' it. Can you tell where??

I've used different rub-ons, but the stamps are the same, just placed differently. The paper is the same color, but the glitter is more colorful. The "fix" is the bottom center of the page where there are some more plants. It's barely noticeable, and it still looks okay.

Well, that's it! I hope you enjoyed my photos. Thank you for visiting and come back soon!
