Birthday Boy

Hello!

It was my father-in-laws birthday yesterday, so I made him a card and put it in the mail. This year the siblings got together and bought him something special since it is his 80th year...but I can't tell you what yet, just in case he saunters over to my blog on a whim before they've told him. Sorry!

Anyway, whenever he has cake, he always has a huge helping of ice cream along with it...which is why I chose to make him an ice cream cone card.

Since the card is fairly plain, I decided to add a little bow to the bottom even though it may be considered a bit girlish.

The ice cream scoops are made with the Stampin' Up scallop circle punch and then trimmed down. I used clear embossing powder and a flourish stamp for the swirls on them. They are attached with the foam pop dots for height. The background is done with the Swiss Dots embossing folder with my Cuttlebug. Note the inking on the ice cream scoops.

For the ice cream cone, I used a piece of the thicker linen look cardstock and rubbed an ink pad over it to highlight the pattern a bit. I kind of like the way it turned out. The cherry on top of the ice cream cone is a red button with some yarn tied through it. I used a rub-on for the sentiment. Note the faux stitching detail as well as the inking around the background.

HAPPY 80TH BIRTHDAY IRA!

Thanks for stopping by and have a great weekend! :)

  2. I like the cone--it almost looks like a man's suit, which his probably why I like your red ribbon choice and don't think it looks too feminine. Whimsical ice cream, if I do say.... LOVE IT!
