Adventures in the Austin of England...and a free Digi!

I love vintage cars.

I really do!

Back in the day (say about 1978), I used to own an old Austin of England.

It was so unique!! The seats were like couches and made of leather. The signal lights moved from the side top between the front and rear doors ~ moving up & out and down & in to signal a lane change or a turn. Very, very cool!!

Oh did I have some adventures in that car.

Like when I was driving down the highway and the front hood flipped up on me...we quickly rolled down the windows so we could see and pull over.

I remember a time when the car broke down and we had to push the car just a little bit (talk about HEAVY) to get to the top of the long hill that would almost bring us right down to our house. I remember praying that there would be no one on the adjoining road so that we could make the turn onto the road just before turning into the driveway. We actually did it.

Or, when we drove down the road and a wheel went rolling past us. It was a strange sight...and not a little frightful once we realized it was OUR rear wheel!!!!

Those cars were so well balanced, that the rear of the car didn't drop until we slowed down to stop...then it was a light show with the sparks created from metal dragging on the road.

Oh...those were the days!

And here's the car... Great for a masculine card! Now available in my Etsy Shop.

Hope you all have a nice week!
Blessings,
Carmen

  3. Thank you for this--we used to have one just like this in the 1960s--it was fairly old by the time we got it :)

  9. Hi Carmen,
I don't know how I missed this back in January - great image and brings back lots of memories. I loved hearing your little stories about your car, I remember my uncle's car with the indicators (what we in the UK call the signal lights) appearing from the body of the car, such fun to watch!
    Thanks for sharing.
