Metal Tape Card with some tips on how.

Good morning,

I have another card to show you today. This is a personal card I made for my father in law. His birthday is coming up this week. I believe he will be 88. He’s a jolly fellow and an endearing guy. 

I decided to play with my aluminum tape again and see what I could come up with. For at least a few months I was in search of the retired Stampin’ Up Going Global embossing folder. I was about to pull down my posts when someone responded. I got it at a great price and it arrived last week. So this is my first try with it. 

Someone asked me how to do this, so thought I’d share. It’s super simple. All you need to do is pick up some aluminum foil tape from a hardware store. It comes in a good size roll and is usually pretty cheap. 

Cut a piece of cardstock to the size you want (I went with the size of my embossing folder) and then cut a few strips of the tape about a 1/2” larger. Pull the backing off the tape and secure it over the cardstock smoothing it as you place it on and leaving a bit of overhang all around. You’ll have to do three strips for most cards. Then just wrap the overhang around the cardstock. You’re ready for the next step. 

Choose an embossing folder and run the taped cardstock through your cuttlebug/BigShot, or whatever you have. That’s the shiny part done. Now embellish your card from there. 

If you like a grungy look, you can put black acrylic paint over the tape, let it dry and wipe it with a Wet One. This works particularly well with a decorative folder as the black paint stays in the crevices. I’ve used this method with my cogs and gears folder. 

Another method is to smear inka gold here and there over the foil or alcohol inks. Check out the pictures below of some of my old projects using these methods. Also, go on Pinterest and search for ‘metal tape art’or "Metal Foil Art"- you’ll be amazed. 

This was the inside of a card. It is just the metal tape and black acrylic paint. The texture underneath the tape is that adhesive netting.

Here are a couple of frames we did up. I think I had my grandkids and daughter in law with me at the time. This one was done with the inka gold on it as well as different items under and on top of the tape.

You see how you can use different folders with the metal tape and run them through the cuttlebug before you peel the backings off. It's a different look. We used lots of different colors of inka gold on this Malma Mirror.

And these last two are portions of the same card. I can't find the photo of the whole card. Lol. Anyway, this card I used different embossing folders, adhesive netting, gears from old watches, etc. Plus, I used the black acrylic paint, and the inka gold.

Birthday Countdown and Northern Lights

Good Morning!

It's a nice sunny day here and although I'd love to go out, I have been so sick. :-(   I just took some Tylenol Day for cold and flu about 20 minutes ago...so I am not responsible for what follows... (jks). I do feel a touch better today...

Lately I've been playing around with the Northern Lights Technique.

I Confess, I'm Obsessed

I get focused!

You know, I love all kinds of crafts. If it's crafty, I want to do it.......and it seems the sky is the limit. The only thing is, I have to get it out of my system and then I find some kind of normal. 

Sometimes it takes a while.

Right now I'm the CRAZY crochet lady! Um huh...

please be patient with me...

My nephew recently had a birthday, so I sent him a card I made a while back, but I changed the inside of it so thought I'd show it to you again.......

Okay, who am I kidding? I'm just trying to make up for the low scrapbooking/cardmaking posts of late. 

Although I do prefer the inside of the card to the way it was before, which was rather plain.

Seriously though, it's all over the place!! My family is seeing snow and blizzards!

 It's been pretty good here though. I've even been able to get some walking in.

Well, in between crocheting.

Can't complain at all.

Metal Foil Card

Hello!

Just a head's up. This is the first of two posts. 

It's been a little while! 

I have been busy in the kitchen preparing stewed tomatoes, salsa, pickled beets, bread & butter pickles, salsa and I have yet to do pears and applesauce. I'm not sure what happened...I'm fairly domestic by nature, but I don't like canning. 

Well...I didn't. 

It's like I've been bit by the canning bug! 

Soooo...I've just been pre-occupied with that. However, I did have to make a few cards recently, so I am showing you the first in this post.

This card was made by request. Someone saw my other metal foil card with a motorcycle on it and wanted something similar. So this is what I came up with. You can see my original one HERE.

Metal Foil Art Mirrors

Hi!!

I'm making another quick post to show you what the girls and I have been up to in my basement craft room when we haven't been gallavanting around. =D

The girls decorated some mirrors and a frame. Here's some pics...

This is the one their Mom made! They all went a little heavier on the Inka Gold than I did, and I LOVE the look!!

This one is Haylie's. You can tell she's used different colors than her Mom, and I really love how hers turned out too. The stars are mirrored off the ceiling in the room. That's right...I like to work under the stars! (Actually, they're left over from when the kids had their beds down there).

And here is Heidi's creation. Another Malma mirror. She used different folders on hers and used the colors differently for another great look!

We had fun!

More Metal Foil Art

Hello!

As you know, I've been playing with some metal art. I made a card for my nephew, then an industrial metal frame. Today I made another metal art frame. 

This time I used Inka Gold instead of metallic rub-ons, and to be honest, I much prefer the Inka Gold! The effect is so incredibly beautiful!

While my industrial metal frame is definitely masculine, this one is more feminine.

I love it, and unfortunately the picture doesn't do it justice. It's way more striking in real life.

The embellishments aren't actually attached yet...not sure where I want them yet.

Don't know what Inka Gold is? It's a metallic paste that comes in 11 colors, 100 gr each, and soon it will be available in 50 gr. containers as well. It goes on your project and then gets buffed to a beautiful colorful metallic shine.

I know this sounds like a commercial, but it isn't...I just like the stuff!

Industrial Metal Foil Frame

Hello!

I got into playing with the Metal Tape today. I've given the technique a name and called it "Industrial Metal," I think it fits!

It's a very masculine technique that would work well for men's cards or gifts.

Remember a while back when I did up some $1.50 wooden frames with the Ridgeview residents? Well, I had a few left over, so I decided to alter one of them. It was covered with pink designer paper...but not anymore! Here is the completed frame.

Anyway, I did a bit of a tutorial of sorts...only I had put the tape on before I realized I should take photos. Remember there's a video on that a couple of posts below this one. 

Here's where I started:

I gathered up some old watch parts and chains. I made some metal foil tape embellishments out of cardstock and corrugated cardboard and added brads to them.

Here's the frame with the magic mesh, the tape and the 'rivets' already in place.

In this photo I've added black acrylic paint onto the frame and the embellishments, and then wiped and dabbed them with a baby wipe and a tissue. And yes, if you're like me you will have paint on your hands, underneath your nails, on your elbows, and who knows where else...

I attached the embellishments with Glossy Accents and let it sit and dry hard. Technically, you could leave it like this...I like this look as well. However, I added Inka Gold to it, using the silver, hematite and a copper tone (sorry, I can't remember the name of the color).

I wish the completed picture up top was a better photo, but they're kind of hard to photograph because of the reflection. You get the just of it anyway.

Metal Foil Tape Card

G'Morning!

I've been working on something new! My nephew has a birthday coming up soon, and I wanted to make him a masculine card. A nice masculine card is hard to find--so I decided to try something with metal foil tape. I am calling this the "Industrial Metal Technique."

I know you can buy it at Michael's. I think there's about 36" of it in a package. I read somewhere that it's similar to the stuff you can buy in a hardware store...so I got a whole roll of it for 3.50 CAD. Good thing too, because I didn't do so well on the first card I made and ended up doing it over.

I actually thought it turned out okay and I hope he likes it. 

It was hard to get a good photo of it...

Here's the inside

I did the saying inside with free fonts. Jokerman and Ironcladbolted. The second has lettering with rivets on them.

In addition to the metal foil tape, I used two Cuttlebug folders; the Cogs and Gears, and the Happy Birthday folders.

I used a metal key, a bike charm and 4 decorative metal brads.

Also, I used that mesh with adhesive under the tape.

I added 'rivets with a pointy tool, and used a roller for some of the detail.

There was black acrylic paint applied and then wiped off, and also some metallic rub ons.

I got the metal letters at the Dollar Store.
