Free Crochet Freezie Holders for kids patterns

Hello,

It’s been extremely hot here in the interior of BC, so I wasn’t too surprised when I noticed that my freezie holders for kids were getting a lot of attention lately. These adorable crocheted freezie holders do up quickly and the kids love them. They keep their little fingers from freezing up &  getting wet and sticky. Check the sidebar for two posts with patterns included for four different holders, plus a link to six more of my freezie holder patterns on Ravelry. Links below.

C2C Cupcake Security Blanket Free Pattern

It’s December first and true to the time of year, it is freezing outside. BRRRR!  The best place to be is inside where it’s warm and cozy. I’ve been using this time to sew, crochet and make cards. Today I will share one of my cupcake themed projects with you.

This is a corner to corner security blanket. When completed it is 25”x20”, which is a bit larger than a typical security blanket. You could make it smaller by removing 2 or 3 rows all around, or add more rows to the outside and turn it into a stroller blanket at 30”x35.” It’s so easy to do that with these graph patterns.

I’m in the process of blocking it, but you can see how the pattern turned out. I made it for my great granddaughter, who is almost 11 months old now. A happy little bean!

I apologize for the sun rays…it was difficult to get a true color photo.

This was the pattern I used. I have written out the counts for this pattern for myself and can print them up for you. However, I no longer have the grid pattern, other than this photo of it. However, if you click on it, it’ll bring you to a larger version of it. You can then take a screenshot and print it from there.
One thing I did differently was instead of using a double crochet, I used a half-double crochet because I thought it would make a thicker blanket. If you use a double crochet, you’ll end up with a bigger blanket as well.

(To use a half double crochet in this pattern, the chain 6 becomes a chain 5, and the chain 3 becomes a chain 2)

I made some minor changes to the pattern afterwards, which you’ll see below.  The cherry is slightly smaller. I have not written up the count for this one.
I’ve included a link of this pattern for you below. I believe you can print it from there if you’d like to try it.

That’s all for today. I hope you have a wonderful weekend,
Blessings,
Carmen

Of Mice and Minion Freezie Holders (Free Patterns)

It's that time of year again in the 'Loops where the weather has suddenly turned warm and summer will soon have us sweating away wishing for some freezies, In 2017 I wrote up a few patterns for freezie holders which are available on Ravelry. However, I never made the Mickey, Minnie and Minion patterns for sale due to copyright laws with Disney. I just didn't think it was worth it. So today I've written those out for you to enjoy for free, here on the blog. I apologize for any formatting issues ---sometimes blogger just doesn't the copy paste feature!

Sweet Potato 3 Cancer Challenge

Good Morning,

It seems I'm up early this morning as I couldn't sleep. I feel great inspite of it, but we will see as the day progresses. I may need a little cat nap later on. Lol.

As I lay there awake I thought I should post about Sweet Potato 3's Cancer Challenge. Are you a crocheter? If you are, you may not be aware of this sweet deal. Every October for the last 17 years, Christine at Sweet Potato 3 has been hosting a Cancer Challenge to make hats for people who have gone through cancer treatments and need to keep their heads warm. I have been participating in this challenge for the past 3 years. I pledge my hats to the Royal Inland Hospital Cancer ward in Kamloops every year.

How it works:

Christine lines up a group of crochet designers for October every year who create a hat pattern. Most patterns are free for 24 hours provided you pledge to donate one or more of the finished hats to cancer. Every day of the month a new hat is offered, and two on Saturday. Some of the patterns are free for the whole month, so if you decide to participate, you may still find some of the last 5 are free and available, but again, only if you pledge one or more of the hats you make from that pattern. Of course, you're free to make more hats to gift or use for yourself.

I usually pick out a few hats that I want to make and pledge at least one of each. I've done up to 12 or more different patterns a year and donated many. Some people do every one that is offered. Needless to say, I have a lot of hat patterns.

So if you like to crochet, I'll leave you the links and a photo of the last hat that was offered. If you get here quick enough, you may still be able to get it for free. She lists all of the ones for this month at the bottom of her post.

I downloaded the Waves of Hope hat yesterday. This sweet, soft looking hat was designed by Christine herself. I think it's absolutely adorable! Just remember to put the code in before completing your purchase and it will show up as free. Then put it through and save it in your files. This one came with a little video how-to as well. I've learned a lot of new stitches by participating in this Challenge over the years. It's been fun!

Sweet Potato 3 also has a Facebook page. I find that's a great way to never miss any new posts while the Cancer Challenge is on.

So if you like to donate some of your creations, this is perfect and it helps so many!! I see the 6th hat has been posted so go have a look! It's an adorable warm looking hat designed by Sara and Helen at  Sunflower Cottage Crochet for free in exchange for your pledge to make and donate one hat to a cancer patient or center! There are some really cute patterns on their page as well!

I can tell Fall is settling in. My crochet hooks are calling, and so is my sewing machine....I will be posting some super cute quilt blocks soon (I'm chomping at the bit waiting for my fabrics to arrive).

See you soon,

Blessings,
Carmen

Keeping the Wigs Warm!

Hello everyone,

Fall is here and my nesting instincts have taken full hold right next to my yarn basket! Ok, so it’s bigger than a basket - - - let’s just leave it at that.

I pulled out my trustee hooks and away I went. Last year I took part in Sweet Potato 3’s Cancer Challenge, but this year I decided to make children’s hats because they are just cute and fun to put together. I’ll show you what I’ve made and link you to the patterns, if I have one.

First up, I found this adorable little Llama hat on Pinterest by The Crafty Flutist. I did make a couple of changes- I didn’t fray the yarn for the hair, and I added lashes to her eyes. The pattern is free, so make you’re own if you’re so inclined.

Next, I picked up this little free pattern from Semi Sweet Crafter. This little parrot was so easy to make. I found myself using the toddler size to make the 12 mo hat, so check your gage!

Last but not least, I made this little Paw Patrol Skye Hat. This one was a little more complicated as I took a paid pattern for the hat and badge, but used the free pattern for the Aviator Hat from Repeat Crafter Me for the goggles on the Skye hat. I made some small changes, adding a sc row to the bottom of the goggles, and adding another row around the eye pieces and the top perimeter. As for the doggy ears, I just made those up as I went. They turned out ok, but as you see, this Skye Paw Patrol Hat was a mix and match pattern. Unfortunately there’s no one pattern.

That’s all I have for you today! Hope you’re all enjoying our fall weather. It sure is starting to get a bit nippy at night. Good time to throw some hats on them kiddos!

Blessings!

Catching Up on Crafts

Hello,

Seems like I've been missing in action again.  Life, you know!

I'm still puttering away. I often post things on Instagram because it's quick and easy, but then I forget to post here. There are always things in progress on my desk as well. I'll make a card, decide to make a few more and wait to post. Then I don't make anymore and don't post.

Why? I don't know -- it's what I do.

Nevertheless, I'm happy and buzzing along and now I'm here to show you a few things, the good, the bad and the unfinished. But they're mine. Lol

First I'm going to show you my painting. This is a 5X7 small painting made as a trial. I wanted to try some acrylic painting and found a style that I thought might be fun and less laborious than my oil painting. I'm not overly happy with it, but for a first attempt it isn't bad. There are a lot of things to think about in mixing the paint properly and how you combine them, what you use with it, etc. All of it affects the outcome of your painting. I have a long way to go, but I'm going to try some other ones to see if I can get the results I want.

I also made a few cards recently. I actually love this tulip stamp. I thought it would make a cute thank you card to have on hand.

This one is made with some puzzle pieces. The picture doesn't do it justice, which doesn't help, but it is what it is. I wanted to make more, but look at it -- back to the drawing board.

These are ones I am working on. I do have to get cracking because I have a birthday coming up. After cutting the strips off the others, I decided to weave them together. It might make a good background for another card or a mixed media piece.
The lady with the hair is an IndigoBlu stamp that I love.

I was texting one of my DIL's because I wanted to send a little parcel to the grands. She said the girls are really into scrunchies for hair. So I made a bunch of scrunchies. There's cotton blend, velvet, sheer with pom poms and shiny ones. These were fairly quick and easy to make. I have granddaughters in three different places, so I made quite a few. They're all ready to go now.

I also made another Critter Bag -- there's no name on this one yet, but I'm sure I'll find someone. The photo is kind of dark and shaded, but you've seen these before.

Last but not least. This is my Attack Chicken. I made him and then threw him at my son and yelled "Attack Chicken," and somehow it stuck. Now he gets thrown around at unsuspecting people.

I never said I was normal.

There's a free pattern for this guy from Stip en Haak, a dutch blog. There's an option to translate it to english before the download. I used a bigger hook, so mine isn't as small. The original ones are just adorable.

Well, that's it for today,
Have a great weekend!

Boy Cards and Crafts

Hello Everyone,

How is 2019 going for you? I've been MIA here on the blog for lack of time, but I often post on my Facebook page when I don't have time to do a full blog post. If you'd like to see what I'm up to on a regular basis, check me out there.

Here are a few of the things I've been working on lately. (If you follow my FB page, you may have seen a few of these already, but there will be a couple of new cards). I'll post the cards first.

This one was for my oldest grandson. He just turned 16. I just love this kid! He's funny, sweet and talented at beatboxing. Just a nice kid!

I saw a card like this one on Pinterest and decided to try something similar. The blog was no longer in existence and so I can't give credit, but what a cute idea!  I liked the black and white contrast, so stuck with that. The rest I just kind of put together by gosh and by golly, but it turned out okay. I just used a piece of yarn for the shoe lace as I had nothing else suitable.

I thought this little metal 'Destiny' accent went well with the saying.

My other grandson's birthday is coming up in February and he's right into Lego. So here is his card.

I bought the Lego paper quite some time ago but it sure came in handy. It has a bit of a shiny texture to it and so I didn't need to do any additional work on it.

I found a little saying that I thought was cute and put it on the inside.

My kids sometimes roll their eyes at my sense of humor. Oh well, I've got to be who I am.

His daddy's birthday is also coming up in February, so I made a very simple card for him. I scarfed the saying off the internet. It was a free sentiment that led back to Pinterest and a broken link. Sigh.

I had such a hard time getting good photos. It was full-on sun in the middle of the day, but they're still kind of dark. I wasn't going outside to take them. Too cold here, plus I'm just getting over being sick.

Speaking of which, that is why I made easy cards. My goodnesss I was sick. I mean sleep all day sick, and stare into stunned oblivion when awake. Oh, it was bad. Happily I am on the mend. Still coughing lots and still a bit stuffy at times, but waaaaayyy better!!!

Now onto some things you may or may not have seen. I made some little Tiger Pouches for three of my granddaughters. After seeing them my 10 yr old grandson came and asked me to make him something, so I made some Shark Pencil Pouches for 2 of my grandsons. The others are either too young or too old.

The Tiger Pouch was a paid pattern from Stubbornly Crafty on Etsy. This one was super easy to follow and fun to make. I used wool felt for the glasses.

I actually made 3 of these. The smallest one is the first one I made and is true to the pattern. I decided I wanted them a bit larger, so the other three were made with the adjusted pattern.

The pattern for the Shark Pencil Pouches was a free pattern from Patchwork Posse. You will have to join her newsletter to get the pattern. I found it difficult to work the zipper in this one but it's great for using up scraps of fabric. I'd like to try one with Denim scraps. If you're not experienced with zippers, I wouldn't recommend this one for you.

Okay, so last but not least. I always enjoy crocheting and have been working on some little runners and hats for newborns up to 3 months. I'll just share this photo instead of take an up to date one.

These are going to the pregnancy center in town. I may make more. I'm really kind of a do-as- the-mood-hits-me girl. Some might say spoiled, but that's not nice. Be nice.

Anyway, that's about all I'll post for today. My computer is blinking on and off and being difficult, but it still works. Lol.

Be thankful, take nothing for granted and have a great day!

Blessings,
Carmen

Thanksgiving Cornucopia of Crafts

Happy Thanksgiving Everyone!

Have you had your Turkey yet, or are you having it tonight? Is it Turkey, Ham, or ? I know in Holland people sometimes have Salmon for dinner on special occasions like Christmas, so it's fun to hear what people actually do. We had Turkey with trimmings and it was really quite exceptional this year.

Then we all wanted to have a big snooze. Turkey, you know. It's mellowing.

I was texting with my DIL who showed me some place cards she had made for their thanksgiving table which inspired me to do something too. Now this was at the 11th hour, and I had to do something quickly. I had been to our local "De-stash the Stash Garage Sale" at the Kamloops Indian Reserve a week ago and found these cute little feather diecuts for a fraction of the price. I decided to play with them. I used leftover scraps of designer cardstock and found a free printable. I didn't do any measuring and pretty much threw them together with a bit of glue, some twine and dbl sided tape.

It dressed up the plain napkins a bit and added a flair to the table. Afterwards I decided to throw them on the table along with the flowers my sweet hubby gave me. I love the fall colors!

Double Duty. Works for me --

What else have I been making? Oh, let me tell you, I've been makin' and shakin' up left overs.

Here's the lap blanket I made with leftover yarn. It was literally a "how should I use these yarns up" kinda project. It's very warm and basically consists of double crochets. The picture's a bit dark, but you can see the nice thick baby yarn I used.

I was looking around to see what I could do to use up some smaller bits of yarn leftovers and found that our local NICU was looking for premie booties, hats, etc. They make up about 30 packages for premie babies around Christmas time. So far I've made these. The minion booties aren't quite done yet.

To give you an idea of the size:

I have fairly small hands to begin with. These are teeny tiny and they're so soft and cute. Made of wool and true hemp.

I also had some waterproof PLU fabric left from other projects so made a few wet bags. The zippers were 8" zippers my husband had picked up for me in Vancouver while looking for 9" zippers. He had forgot his glasses. They were perfect for this project. Yes, the joy of forgetting your glasses and ending up with short zippers. I've had these sitting around for at least two years so it was good to find a good use for them.

This was another 'throw together' kind of project. I straightened the sides of the fabric, and then cut 2" off the top. The bags are about 9" wide and a bit longer.

Then I grabbed a couple of those 8" zippers, one for each bag. I sewed one side of the zipper to the 2" piece, another to the body. Then I folded the whole thing inside out (with the zipper open) and sewed along the sides and top. A little ironing around all sides after turning it right side out, and I had a use-able wet bag. These will also go to the NICU for the premie baby gift bags.

Last but not least, I just sold one of my paintings. I had just finished painting the sides and it's waiting for a varnish and a backing before it's ready to go. My paintings are oils done with a palette knife. This one was a tasteful nude. You can just see a bit of it in the photo below.

Finally, I wanted to turn you all on to Sweet Potato 3. The last few years she has been hosting a Cancer Challenge every October.
Different designers offer new crochet patterns each day of the week of October, and a different project on weekends. The deal is, you get a new pattern, but you agree to give at least one of the items you make with that pattern to a Cancer Clinic. You can make all 30 or 5 if you want. Every little bit helps!

Last year I made quite a few hats to donate. Our cancer clinic is in our hospital, so I brought them there. Sweet Potato 3 also has free printables you can attach to your finished product that states size, etc.

Well, that's it Ladies and Gentlemen! I hope you have a great Thanksgiving!

Gobble Till You Wobble!

Carmen :)
