Playing With Sketching

Hi!

I like to try new things every once in a while--even if they're old things! I used to spend some time drawing when I was a teenager. My mother always encouraged me to take art in school, but I never did take it.

However, I picked up my pencil the other day and began to draw again. Now granted, these are pretty rough sketches that need a lot of polishing, but hey - I had fun playing! I thought I'd show them to you anyway.

Lucky you....wink wink....

I always had this thing with eyes and drew lots of them. Naturally, that's the first thing I tried again.
Then I thought I'd look at another photo and draw from it. Not my original design, but fun to copy.
I drew this one free hand a few days later.
Then I drew this one yesterday. I'm just playing here. I have done true to life drawings, but I enjoy just drawing faces. I like big eyes, as you can see.

When I told my Mom I was drawing again, she said "finally." Not sure what that means, but she is an incredibly good artist herself. She did oil and charcoal, charcoal being her favorite. She always did true to life sketches. Here's the charcoal drawing she did of me as a child (3 yr).
The line through the middle of the charcoal is broken glass that I need to replace. This piece is quite large, but it almost looks like a photo, doesn't it?

Well, have a good week!
Blessings,
Carmen

  2. Your mother wanted you to take art because she could see that you already a natural talent for it. You still do!! I did take art in school and my teacher used to say that it took a small amount of talent and the rest was hard work. I don't think you'll have to work very hard. ;o)
Drawing will bring you joy and lucky for those of us that see your blog, we'll get some joy from it too. Oh and think how really happy your mother is.

    1. Thanks Diane! I'll work on it and see what happens. Looking forward to playing with some mixed media portraits, and some true to life, down the road. :)
