I recently purchased some 'Cars' material with my grandson in mind. So I thought I'd show you what I made with it. I bought one and a half metres in total (that's just under 60"). I had some pillow forms in the closet from a while back, so I grabbed a 22" and a 16" form and made some pillows.
I had at least a 12" strip left over, so I pulled out an Ikea Malma Mirror and played around with it a bit.
I covered the mirror with some masking tape.
Then I placed the fabric over top and cut out the center of the fabric and snipped to the corners.
With a brush, I mod podged the wood and then placed the material over it, and brushed a coat of mod podge over it.
I let it dry, and did it again.
This shows the second coat--you can still see that it's a bit wet.
I made sure to mod podge the sides and back as well. Once it was dry, I removed the tape from the mirror and glued some cord on the inside of the wood bordering the mirror. I used glossy accents to do this because it happened to be handy.
Here is the finished mirror:
Kai seemed to love the mirror and the pillows....and since I still have quite a bit of material left, my DIL asked if I'd do two more matching mirrors (she has a few Malma Mirrors waiting for some TLC).
I think they'll look real cute in his room!
I had a lot of fun doing this project, and it only took one afternoon! I love the Malma Mirrors. There's so much you can do with them. Check out this link for another project I make with these.
Thanks for visiting!!

What a sweet and easy project to pull together with the pillows (and all of your grandson's other accessories)! Cool.... Love the tight cording treatment around the mirror, too.
ReplyDeleteThanks Sue! It was so easy! The hardest part was pulling out my serger and sewing machines! I think I'll use some yellow and red cording for the other two, just for fun! :)
ReplyDeleteThat's cute! What a great idea!
